On March 1, SOCES PTA officially kicked off the fourth year of its Pick a Reading Partner (PARP) program at William O. Schaefer Elementary School and Cottage Lane Elementary School with a video reveal of the book and Lion Dance performances by the Fire Mountain School!
SOCES PTA members plan extensively for this six-week program, from the book selection to collaborating with local businesses, to create a community-wide event that students and their families can enjoy. This year’s selection is “Where the Mountain Meets the Moon” by Grace Lin, a “fantasy novel crossed with Chinese folklore” which contains meaningful messages about friendship and gratitude. Throughout the course of the program, the “Mighty Five” local libraries, the Rockland Chinese School and several local businesses are partnering with PTA to host various activities and events inspired by the book.
