South Orangetown Central School District

Last Sunday, the Tappan Zee High School Leo Club delivered 200 pairs of socks and toiletry supplies to homeless individuals in New York City, thanks to a collaborative collection conducted by all four of our schools.

Over the past 10 years, the Leos have partnered with local nonprofits throughout Rockland County, including the Immaculate Conception Church of Stony Point, to help those in need through a series of Midnight/Breakfast Runs into Manhattan.

Eight members of the Leo Club along with Principal Rudy Arietta, Library Media Specialist and Leo Club Advisor Patty Eyer, retired TZHS teacher/Leo Club advisor Tricia Castelli and TZHS Teaching Assistant and Blauvelt Lion Kathy Mart, joined members of the Immaculate Conception Church on Sunday to distribute supplies.

“It feels good to give back by helping people who are homeless,” said senior Kyle L., a Leo Club member. “I originally joined because my sister was in the Leo Club and I saw how she was able to help people in our community. It was a lot of fun and I’m looking forward to participating in the Midnight Run in June.” Kyle first joined the club as a freshman and recruited five of his friends to join.

Thank you to all our South Orangetown students, families, and staff for helping to make this Leo Club service event a success!
