Congratulations, TZHS Class of 2026!

“As I look out, I see leaders, I see state champions, I see musicians, artists, innovators and dreamers. More importantly, I see hope. I have seen what you have been able to accomplish in your four years here at Tappan Zee and I am proud to be your principal,” remarked Principal Melissa Luciano in her address at the Tappan Zee High School Class of 2026 Commencement Ceremony this evening. “Each of your journeys here had twists, turns and unexpected detours. But you navigated each obstacle, pushed through and came out stronger and more prepared than ever. Be proud of your journey, no matter how ugly it may have seemed at the time. You are resilient.”

A journey through fond memories, the importance of human connection and finding your purpose were among the themes covered during the moving speeches given by Valedictorian Lukas Witek, Salutatorian Jaywon Chae and Class President Luca Supaswud. 

The ceremony also featured performances by the TZHS Concert Band, under the direction of Music teacher Robert Bennett, and senior choir members, conducted by Choral Director Russell Wagoner, DMA.

Luciano officially presented the Class of 2026 to Superintendent of Schools Brian Culot, Ed.D. and declared that its members had met graduation requirements.

“Some of the biggest challenges you face can end up being what enables you to accomplish your greatest achievements. I was lucky enough to have a front row seat to watch this play out with your class. You absolutely crushed it, especially in your final year here at TZ,” said Culot. “From athletics to academics to performing arts and everything in between, you are, as so many others have said, a very special class and embody what it truly means to be a collaborative team.”

Class Secretary Laura Esteban and Treasurer Kayleen Yi read aloud the class roll as seniors took the stage to accept their diplomas. Then, seniors marked the culmination of the ceremony as Class Vice President Emma McHugh asked students to turn their tassels from right to left before celebrating with the traditional cap toss.

TZHS Class of 2026, the entire South Orangetown Central School District is proud of every step each of you has taken to achieve this milestone. Your future is bright, and it begins now…congratulations!
