Ella Boyle Earns Gold Star Award

Congratulations to Tappan Zee High School senior Ella Boyle on earning the Gold Award–the highest Girl Scouts of the USA achievement! This recognition is presented to high school-aged Girl Scouts who complete a sustainable community project.

Since joining her troop in the second grade, Ella wanted to help others and hone her leadership skills. For her Gold Award project, Ella revitalized the grotto area at the St. Catharine of Alexandria Church in Blauvelt by installing new benches, painting the statue of Mary and planting flowers in the space. “I’ve been a volunteer at my church for several years now. It’s very important to me and I enjoy helping my community so I wanted to find a way to give back,” said Ella. As a volunteer, she has served as both an assistant teacher and a teacher and worked with multiple grade levels. 

Ella will be attending SUNY Oneonta this fall where she will study Biology. “I’ve always been a Girl Scout and I felt that by completing the Gold Award, it would also help with my college applications and it definitely did,” noted Ella. “Both volunteering at my church and being a Girl Scout has taught me a lot over the years about responsibility and leadership.”
