Juliann Long Appointed Supervisor of Special Education

Juliann Long was appointed Supervisor of Special Education, effective August 15, during the July 9 Board of Education Reorganization Meeting. In this role, she will coordinate and support the work of special education and related services staff in collaboration with district and building administrators, curriculum and instruction leaders and student support personnel to ensure effective, aligned services for students. Juliann will facilitate collaborative problem-solving teams to analyze student performance data, develop targeted intervention plans to improve student outcomes and provide leadership and professional learning related to inclusive practices, co-teaching models, behavioral supports and differentiated instruction.

A dedicated educator and leader, Juliann has served the South Orangetown Central School District since 2017 as a tenured special education teacher at Tappan Zee High School and South Orangetown Middle School. Throughout her time in the district, she has taken on a variety of leadership roles, including Administrative Intern, Response to Intervention Team Leader, Advanced Placement Coordinator and student support administrator, while working collaboratively with staff, students and families to promote student success. She holds a master's degree in Adolescent Special Education and completed a post-master's certificate in Educational Leadership at Stony Brook University, earning her School Building Leader certification and preparing her for School District Leader certification.
