Kindergarten Registration Kickoff Campaign

Kindergarten Registration Kickoff Campaign

Ever wonder what a day in the life of a William O. Schaefer Elementary School student looks like? Well, now you don’t have to!

In the days leading up to the opening of kindergarten registration for next year, we’re giving our South Orangetown Central School District community (and future members!) a preview of what a typical school day looks like at this age. Inspired by the popular television show The Pitt, each “episode” will provide a glimpse into approximately one hour of a kindergartner’s day — similar to that of an emergency medicine shift. First up: 9:15-10:15am.

Students are excitedly greeted off of buses and sidewalks, out of cars and into the building. Each morning, a different class helps Tricia Psychas, a secretary at WOS who lovingly goes by Ms. Tricia, with announcements by introducing themselves and leading the entire school in the Pledge of Allegiance before receiving stickers for a job well done and returning to class. At this time, children are participating in Morning Meeting — taking a look at the weather, sharing personal news, feelings and making other important connections and observations before starting their instruction for the day.

SOCSD operates on a six-day cycle. While every day looks a little different, these are experiences that are built into students' schedules and become part of their routine.
