Local Professionals Present at Third Annual Second Grade Career Fair

Local Professionals Present at Third Annual Second Grade Career Fair

From mounted police to international DJs, the Third Annual Second Grade Career Fair featured a wide variety of careers to inspire our littlest learners!

On April 24, second grade classes rotated between stations featuring professionals in the fields of arts and entertainment, science, math, military, law enforcement, healthcare, sports and even volunteers from an animal rescue. Speakers discussed their career journeys and what a typical day looks like for them. During the interactive sessions, students asked questions about their jobs and why they chose to work in that field.
“Our Third Annual Second Grade Career Fair was a huge success! Each year, I survey our second graders to find out which careers spark their curiosity, and then I take on the challenge of finding real-world professionals who can bring those dreams to life. It’s not always easy—but it’s always worth it,” explained WOS second grade teacher Jaclyn Nandlal, who organizes the event each year. “Seeing our students’ faces light up with excitement and curiosity during each presentation is truly unforgettable. My greatest hope is that this experience helps them begin to imagine the future and see all the possibilities ahead. If even one child walked away feeling inspired, then I know I’ve done my job. I’m incredibly grateful to each of our presenters for generously volunteering their time and sharing their passion with our second graders—it made all the difference.”

Thank you to our guest speakers who volunteered their time to speak with our students: The New York Boulders, Grace Bartell (Registered Nurse), Diane Buell (Registered Professional Archaeologist and Land Use/Environmental Planner), Jim Nawoichyk and Crew (Rockland County Sheriff’s Mounted Police), Adam Lee Sietz (Comedian, Actor, Author, Speaker), Dr. Ian Levitt (Mathematician at NASA Langley Research Center) Steven Quinones (U.S. Army, First Sergeant), Dr. Raquel Rodriguez (Dentist), Ian Daly and Sun Yang (DJs), and Shannon Rodenberg, Ashley Gardenier and Emily Fitterman (Southern Paws Inc, Animal Rescue). Thank you to the SOCES PTA and President Laura Schaub for donating items to the goodie bags for our presenters!
