October is National Principals Month

Wishing a happy National Principals Month to Sheila Beglin (WOS), Karen Scarth, Ed.D. (CLE), Chad Corey, Ed.D. (SOMS) and Melissa Luciano (TZHS)!

We asked our school leaders to share what they love most about being a principal and here’s what they had to say:

Sheila Beglin (WOS Principal): “Being a Principal of a PreK – 2nd grade school is incredibly rewarding! I love welcoming our young students and their families into our school system and helping to create a safe, welcoming culture that values kindness, inclusion and joy. The WOS school community works hard to foster a love of learning from the very first day of school! I have the privilege of watching our students grow so much over their time at WOS and I get showered with hugs, smiles and beautiful drawings daily—how lucky am I!”

Karen Scarth, Ed.D. (CLE Principal): “I love working with this age group because they are curious, eager to help and lead, and have lots of ideas. They are learning what their passions are, what makes them unique and they love to be involved at school.”

Chad Corey, Ed.D. (SOMS Principal): “What I love most about being a middle school principal is getting to work with students during such a unique and exciting time in their lives. Middle schoolers are full of energy, questions, and potential—and it’s incredibly rewarding to help create a school environment that supports their growth, builds strong relationships and encourages them to explore their interests. I’m also fortunate to work alongside a dedicated and talented staff who share a commitment to fostering meaningful relationships and helping every student thrive.”

Melissa Luciano (TZHS Principal): “I love every day that I step through the doors at TZHS. The students are curious, thoughtful, and actively on their own journey to discovering who they are. I'm privileged to work alongside my colleagues at Tappan Zee High School to help create the environment where the students can safely and enthusiastically develop their voices and explore different paths. It is the greatest honor to lead this community as principal.”

Thank you, SOCSD principals, for all that you do!
