Retirees, Volunteers Honored at Districtwide Celebration
Twenty-five retirees and more than 200 community volunteers were honored at last night’s 2024-25 Districtwide Celebration!
“Insightful,” “devoted,” “empathetic” and “talented” were among the many glowing adjectives used by school and Central Office leaders to express their gratitude for the following retiring staff members:
William O. Schaefer Elementary School: Pamela Bartell, Mary Dimola, Riva Fisher, Joan Hynes, Joanne McCue and Lisa Savarese
Cottage Lane Elementary School: Patricia Keelty, Mary Scully and Angela Vara
South Orangetown Middle School: Kerry Beckmann, Kathleen Lacker and Wendy Stewart
Tappan Zee High School: Randy Altman, William Hughes, James Keelty, Nancy Lungaro, Diane McLoughlin, Richard Neidhart, Amy Rosenthal, Jonathan Rossi and Mary Beth Vero
Districtwide: Diane Cody, Jeanne Corcoran, Liilian Croyle and Randi Pearlstein-Lederer
Community members who answered the call to volunteer through the District’s PTAs and TZ Red & White Club or as mentors, guest speakers, committee members, Food Pantry supporters and beyond received certificates of appreciation for their service. South Orangetown Ambulance Corps Chief Wayne Roimisher was honored by the Athletics Department for SOAC’s valued, longtime presence at home athletics events.
In their remarks, Board of Education President Steven Finn and Superintendent of Schools Brian Culot, EdD thanked all the honorees for their tremendous contributions.
Retiring TZHS Music Department Team Leader and EASO President Bill Hughes stated, “The strength of South Orangetown lies in helping all students succeed…to discover their voice, their space in the world…it is not the result of any one thing, it is the result of everything, and reflects the collective effort of this community working together with heart and purpose.”
The Districtwide Celebration is an annual recognition event coordinated by the District’s Human Resources Department and emceed by Assistant Superintendent for Human Resources Joseph Lloyd, PhD.
