Second Graders Leave Their Mark on WOS Community

Second graders celebrated their final days as William O. Schaefer Elementary School students during the annual Legacy Rock Ceremony earlier this month.

“Before moving on to Cottage Lane, our second graders take part in a special legacy rock project designed to leave their mark on our school community. This meaningful tradition gives students the opportunity to contribute something lasting, creating a reminder of their time here while celebrating their growth and accomplishments before beginning their next chapter,” said WOS Principal Sheila Beglin. “This project serves as a lasting symbol of the memories, friendships, and experiences our students carry with them as they move forward. Their beautiful legacy rocks can be found in our Sensory Pathway. Thank you to our Art Teacher, Elizabeth Piteo for overseeing this wonderful project!”

Over the past couple of weeks, second graders have been painting their legacy rocks during their art classes with Piteo, who first began this tradition in 2020. “The painted stones are a symbol of each unique and wonderful student who has made our school special. As the students place their stone in its new permanent spot in our garden, it's a special reminder of all the lasting friendships and things they have learned here at WOS,” noted Piteo.
