SOCES & SOMS PTA Host Annual We the People Multicultural Event
“Everyone’s like family” is not only the slogan on the SOMS Italian Club t-shirt, it was also a fitting theme for the annual SOCES/SOMS PTA We The People multicultural celebration on March 15.
South Orangetown students, families, staff and community members hosted more than 20 tables representing countries from Armenia to Venezuela. Participants had “passports” stamped by each nation table they visited, sampled delicious treats, engaged in hands-on crafts and games and delighted in a rich program of diverse cultural performances.
Students from the South Orangetown Middle School and Tappan Zee High School French Clubs performed the “Carnaval of Lantz,” a dance from the Basque region. Members of the SOMS and TZHS Italian Clubs and TZHS Italian Honor Society danced the Tarantella and invited guests to join in. South Orangetown students also took part in demonstrations and dances performed by a number of local community organizations.
Thank you to We The People co-organizers Liz Dudley and Kelly Ruby and to all the PTA and faculty volunteers, nation table hosts and performers!
