SOCSD BOE Appoints Two Ex-Officio Student Board Members for the 2025-26 Academic Year

The SOCSD Board of Education recently appointed Jaywon Chae and Miriam George (alternate) as ex-officio student board members for the 2025-26 academic year. Jaywon is a senior and Miriam is a junior at Tappan Zee High School. Congratulations!

So, why get involved? “I wanted to be able to offer an opinion on issues that are important to me and to others,” said Jaywon. “I have attended meetings in the past in support of the Robotics and Swimming teams. I also felt that, being in the Student Organization Club and speaking with delegates from all grades, that I could leverage my experience and share a broader view on matters we discuss.”

A member of the Leo Club, Miriam’s interest in the position also has ties to her involvement in extracurriculars. “It taught me how powerful it can be when we come together to help one another and inspired me to take on a bigger role,” she said. “I have also learned that leadership is about empathy, teamwork and speaking up for others. My goal is to make every student, no matter their background or interests, feel included and part of the conversation.”
