SOCSD Honors Retirees and Volunteers at Districtwide Celebrations

Twenty-three retirees and more than 150 community volunteers were honored at last night’s 2025-26 Districtwide Celebration!

“Devoted,” “proactive,” “passionate” and “advocate” were among the many glowing adjectives used by school and Central Office leaders to express their gratitude for the following retiring staff members:

William O. Schaefer Elementary School: Angela Brennan, Annette Ciallella, Heidi Hill, Suzanne Luke, Amy Sheehy

Cottage Lane Elementary School: Tracy Garro, Sandra Kopac, Kerri McBride, Josie Spano, Maria Vega-Cabrera

South Orangetown Middle School: Colleen Henry

Tappan Zee High School: Young-Ji Choi, James Donovan, Susan Gleeson, Patricia Kilkelly, Steven Purkis, Mark Stanford

Districtwide: Michele Davis, Justin Duffy, Patricia Eyer, Kathleen Muscari, Margarita Rusak, Karen Tesik

Community members who answered the call to volunteer through the District’s PTAs and TZ Red & White Club or as mentors, guest speakers, committee members, Food Pantry supporters and beyond received certificates of appreciation for their service. Superintendent of Schools Brian Culot, EdD, also recognized Student Ex-Officio Board Members Jaywon Chae and Miriam George and outgoing Board of Education Vice President Diana Korabel for their service. 

EASO President Ron Scherer said, “You have all been role models, problem solvers and a steady presence through it all. As you close this chapter, know that the legacy you leave behind will continue for years to come. Our district is an exceptional place to work and to learn because of your unwavering dedication and we thank you sincerely for your outstanding service.”

The Districtwide Celebration is an annual recognition event coordinated by the District’s Human Resources Department and emceed by Assistant Superintendent for Human Resources Joseph Lloyd, PhD.
