SOCSD Hosts 11th Annual School Maker Faire

Last evening, approximately 120 projects were on display during SOCSD's 11th Annual School Maker Faire. The Tappan Zee High School gym transformed into an impressive showcase featuring some of what students across grades K-12 have learned this year in the areas of science, technology, engineering, art and math (STEAM). Those both new and returning to one of the District's most anticipated events had much to explore — from 3D Printing Pens to Cafeteria Service Bots to the SO BOTZ Robotics Team.

"This is a great opportunity for students to showcase their creativity and critical thinking skills through an interdisciplinary project," said Superintendent of Schools Brian Culot, Ed.D. "It's also wonderful to see so many clubs and teams presenting for our younger students." Events like this help to drum up further interest in STEAM-related courses — like TZHS' Science Research, Project Lead The Way and Computer Science Capstone (all of which were in attendance) — by the time learners enter Grade 9 and fields post-graduation.

The future sure looks bright!
