SOMS Science Olympiad Team Earns 8 Medals at Regional Tournament

Last Saturday, 11 members of the South Orangetown Middle School Science Olympiad team competed against 39 teams from Rockland and Westchester at the Lower Hudson Valley Regional Tournament at Scarsdale Middle School. The team won the Best New Team Award (which is awarded to schools who have not competed in at least three years and earned the highest score among all teams who have not competed in at least three years) and students earned eight medals in four events!

Advised by SOMS Science teacher Deena Kramarczyk, K-8 Instructional Science Coach Samantha Levine and SOMS Challenge Lab teacher Edith Nowak, the Science Olympiad team have spent the last several weeks preparing for the competition during their weekly meetings. Team members studied for events including Code Busters, Meteorology, Potions and Poisons, Anatomy and Physiology, Experimental Design, Metric Mastery, Tower, Optics, Air Trajectory and Ecology.
