SOMS Service Studio Students Collaborate with COVE Classes

South Orangetown Middle School COVE students in Beth Doremus and Marie Palanza’s classes joined their SOMS peers to create Thanksgiving-inspired projects with the help of SOMS Technology teacher Edith Nowak!

To prepare for the visit, Nowak and eighth grade SOMS Service Studio students prepared wooden pumpkins that would later be transformed into a fridge magnet with a special personalized “I Am Thankful For” messages on them, which Nowak received from Doremus and Palanza. When each Rockland BOCES COVE class arrived in the Technology room last week, Nowak’s students paired up with a COVE student to help them complete their customized pumpkin.

Service Studio is a class for eighth graders and is designed to build student leadership, life skills and technology fluency through hands-on service projects. These students will take the lead in planning and executing meaningful initiatives that benefit both the school and local community.
