SOMS, TZHS Italian Students Honored During Annual Ceremony

It was a Bella Notte last evening as SOCSD held its 38th Annual Scholarship and Excellence in the Study of Italian Ceremony, during which the Loggia Giovanni da Verrazzano #1236 Order of Sons of Daughters of Italy in America:

• awarded 17 Tappan Zee High School seniors with scholarships;
• inducted 29 members of the TZHS graduating class into the Lodge’s Italian Language and Culture Honor Roll; and,
• presented 17 South Orangetown Middle School seventh graders, 22 eighth graders and 100 TZHS Italian II, III, IV and V students with Merit awards.

Throughout the night, brief speeches were given by scholarship recipients as well as members of the District and building administrations — all of whom stressed the importance of learning a world language. Congratulations to all of this year's honorees and to teachers Christina Nilson, Vittoria Conway and Maria Bruno for preparing them for this moment!
