Summer 2026 Literacy Program in the Books!

That's a wrap on SOCSD's Summer Literacy Program! Over the last couple of weeks, approximately 130 elementary-aged students further developed their IMSE and comprehension skills. Campers in grades K-2 demonstrated their understanding of the concept suffix -s -es, reviewed -igh vocabulary words like "nightmare" and practiced fine motor skills such as handwriting, while those in grades 3-5 composed short and extended responses to questions based off of nonfiction texts and wrote out words ending in -ing — among other activities. Special thanks to Coordinator Kristy Nadler, our 13 District teachers and approximately 20 South Orangetown Middle School and Tappan Zee High School student-volunteers for leading another great program!
