Team Guacamole, Team Pirates
Contestants took sail in the annual South Orangetown Middle School Cardboard Box Regatta on Monday!
Over the past several weeks, teams of eighth-grade Challenge Lab students have designed and fabricated sea-worthy vessels from just cardboard and duct tape. The goal? To be the first to reach the shallow end of the pool. Team Guacamole paddled its way to a decisive win in the singles heat, with Team Pirates clinching victory for doubles.
“The kids worked really hard on this project, which represents the 4C’s of SOMS: collaboration, communication, critical thinking and creativity. It’s a wonderful way for our eighth graders to end their time at SOMS. They should be as proud of themselves as I am of them,” said Challenge Lab teacher Edith Nowak. “Big thank you to Mr. Napoli, Mr. Rastelli, Mr. McWilliams and Mr. Lynch and our outstanding custodial team. They all played key roles in making this event happen!”
