"Tones" Contributors Earn CSPA Honorable Mentions

The 2024 edition of Tappan Zee High School’s literary magazine, “Tones,” recently earned a number of Columbia Scholastic Press Association Gold Circle Award honorable mentions!

Literature entries were written by students in English teacher Sarah McMane’s Creative Writing course and artwork was created in Art teacher Nina Genovese’s course.

Congratulations to the “Tones” contributors who earned honorable mentions:

Closed (Traditional) Form Poetry: Emerson Markiet, “Don't Put Roots Down in Bad Earth”
Experimental Fiction: Valencia Massaro, “Pretty How Now Mall Town”
Art/Illustration, Hand-Drawn: Emily Lee, “Painting for Hailey”

“Recognition is important. Our students work really hard and, because they are often quiet about it, they sometimes go unnoticed,” remarked McMane, a Tones Co-Advisor.

Donna Grasso, Tones Co-Advisor and Art Department Team Leader agreed, “We’re so proud to honor their literary and artistic achievements!”
