TZHS Inducts 53 New Members Into the National Honor Society

Scholarship. Leadership. Character. Service.

During this week's induction ceremony, SOCSD was proud to welcome 53 new members into the Tappan Zee High School chapter of the National Honor Society (NHS) as well as present pins to 65 twelfth graders. To be eligible for NHS, students must reflect outstanding accomplishments in the areas listed above and have a cumulative GPA of 94.500 (weighted). Congratulations!

The evening was led by NHS officers Albert W. (president), Lukas W. (vice president), Maksim G. (secretary) and Benjamin D. (treasurer) — all of whom also recognized seven seniors and two special teachers with awards. The following was said about this year's recipients on behalf of current NHS members:

"[...] He has impacted me significantly as a writer, helping to develop my argumentative skills and encouraging that I see other perspectives [...] What inspires me most is that he's consistent in his support of me as a student, athlete and person," read Lukas about TZHS English Team Leader and 6-12 Instructional Literacy Coach Mark Stanford.

"[...] He inspires and always brings out the best in me. He always contributes to our conversations [...] and shares his knowledge with us," read Lukas about TZHS Science Team Leader and 9-12 Instructional Science Coach Brian Newburger.

The work doesn't stop after admission. Students must complete eight hours of service on a quarterly basis — adding to the required 30 (juniors) and 40 (seniors) hours completed prior to applying. Well done!
