WOS, CLE Recognize Mental Health Awareness Month

Children at William O. Schaefer Elementary School and Cottage Lane Elementary School recently blew their trouble bubbles away and engaged in other fun activities during Children's Mental Health Acceptance Week (May 3-9) — part of Mental Health Awareness Month (MHAM). At WOS, School Counselor Tennille Marino led K-2 students in a mindful breathing exercise where they drew or wrote down their thoughts before releasing them into the air. CLE School Counselor Stephanie Chahales organized daily tasks for learners in grades 3-5 including a positive affirmation station where they could choose from a list or craft their own — wearing their hearts proudly on their sleeves. Getting outdoors also helps boost mental health, which made the recess periods the perfect time to host both activities.

Stay tuned to our feeds as South Orangetown Middle School and Tappan Zee High School recognize MHAM next Friday with dedicated wellness days.
