WOS, SOMS Give Back

While many people around the world this week took advantage of sales, students and staff across the District focused on initiatives related to Small Business Saturday and Giving Tuesday. At William O. Schaefer Elementary School, teacher Jaclyn Nandlal and the Kindness Club embarked on a special project to help restock local food pantries. The goal of Operation Kindness: Giving Back to the Community is to provide meal kits complete with all of the necessary ingredients and recipe cards for minestrone, cheesy taco, cheesy chicken and rice and other hearty soups.

At South Orangetown Middle School, the Changemakers Club — along with advisors Colleen Henry and Marie-Laure Spatz — wrapped up their Fourth Annual Holiday Homeless Drive. This year, students joined the Just Love (JL) Blessings movement and filled dozens of backpacks with bare essentials (snacks, bottled water, sanitary/hygiene products, non-perishable food, clothes and blankets) that will be distributed to those in need in the New York and New Jersey areas. Fun fact: JL was founded by SOCSD alumnus Tony Osso!

It truly is the most wonderful time of the year!
