Twenty Tappan Zee High School students and forty-four South Orangetown Middle School students were named 2022 Rockland Community College Achievement Award winners and honored during a virtual celebration on April 27.
“We are very proud of all the winners of these awards! They have accomplished a great deal in and out of the classroom and are a great representation of TZHS!” Principal Rudy Arietta said.
The SOMS Counseling Department presented its awardees with the RCC certificates at a special breakfast yesterday. ““Congratulations to all the SOMS RCC Achievement Award recipients! Your talents and abilities have been recognized both in and out of the classroom. You are leaders of our building and we are so proud of your accomplishments!” said Principal Chad Corey, Ed.D.
The newly-redesigned Achievement Awards ceremony celebrates high-achieving students of both Hispanic/Latinx and Black/African heritage in grades 6, 8, 10 and 12. To be eligible for the awards, students must earn an academic average of 92 or greater and demonstrate outstanding participation and accomplishment in at least two of the following categories: community service, artistic expression, athletic ability and accomplishment, leadership activity, and/or personal triumph and success. High school students must also meet National Honor Society eligibility criteria.
