Tappan Zee High School has been named a 2021-22 Scholar-Athlete School of Excellence by the New York State Public High School Athletic Association!

“Being recognized as a School of Excellence is a tribute to the great job that our student-athletes do on the field and in the classroom,” said Principal Rudy Arietta. “It also a recognizes the leadership that [Director of Physical Education, Health and Athletics] Bill Pilla and our coaches demonstrate in setting high expectations for our student-athletes’ academic performance.”

To qualify as a School of Excellence, 75% of a school’s varsity teams must qualify and receive the Scholar-Athlete team award. All but one of TZHS’ varsity sports teams earned Scholar-Athlete status in the 2021-22 school year. In 2020-21, TZHS was named a NYSPHSAA School of Distinction.

Pilla attributes the achievement to collaboration and a shared commitment. “This wonderful accomplishment reflects a team effort among our student-athletes, teachers, coaches, administration and families,” he noted. “We’ll continue to make the ‘student’ part of ‘student-athlete’ our Athletic Department’s highest priority!”

Congratulations to our student-athletes, coaches, administrators, teachers and families!
