In a much-anticipated return to a long-standing tradition, more than 30 South Orangetown Middle School and Tappan Zee High School Italian Club and Honor Society members–along with advisors Christina Nilson, Maria Bruno and Vittoria Conway–performed the tarantella at the Blauvelt Sons of Italy Italian Feast last Sunday!

“Participating in this event is a great way to get into the community and for our members to learn more about Italian culture,” said Bruno. “After a two-year hiatus, we were so excited to come back and teach our students the traditional dance, its origins and how it has evolved over the years,” said Bruno.

Conway added, “As a club, we love having the opportunity to share our appreciation of the culture with the community.”

Throughout the school year, the Italian Club meetings at SOMS and TZHS focus on developing an  understanding and appreciation of Italian culture through cooking, holiday celebrations and participation in community-based cultural events.  The TZHS Italian Honor Society also promotes cultural appreciation and community service.
