Families gathered for third grade publishing parties at Cottage Lane Elementary School on Friday where students shared original pieces of writing they wrote this fall. Students read aloud personal narratives which focused on celebrating small yet meaningful moments they’ve experienced.

“The third graders worked hard at choosing a meaningful moment in their lives to retell, stretch out those moments, and revise them for publication,” said K-5 Instructional Literacy Coach Kristy Nadler. “Narrative writing is important for students to master as it is the basis for all other writing. Writers need to develop their own voices which their personal stories and memories influence.”

Throughout the school year, publishing parties will be held at each grade level at CLE. As part of each celebration, guests and students gather in reading circles to share excerpts of student work and share illustrations they included in their story.
