This week, Tappan Zee High School Career and Financial Management students have been helping students at William O. Schaefer Elementary School develop money management skills as they shop at the Penguin Patch Holiday Shop!
Prior to visiting the holiday shop, WOS students created a shopping list to help them keep track of the people they wanted to shop for and their budget. TZHS students worked one-on-one with students to help them shop and advised them on how to handle their money and staying within their budget. “For the elementary students, they can start to learn about the value of products and how much something costs. They also start to realize that they can’t buy everything and need to budget their money,” said TZHS Business teacher Darrell Flynn. “My students are benefitting from this experience because they have the chance to take the concepts that we are learning in class and use them in the real world to help the elementary students learn about money. They have really enjoyed talking and spending time with the younger students as they are helping them shop for their loved ones.”
Career and Financial Management is offered to students in grades 9-12 at TZHS. This course aims to help students become financially literate and covers topics including credit, banking, insurance, money management and investing.
