Six community members with professional experience in the field of law enforcement shared career pathways with students yesterday as part of Tappan Zee High School’s brand-new Career Speaker Series.

TZHS Principal Rudy Arietta met with students that are members of the Principals Council earlier this year to brainstorm careers that TZHS students may be interested in pursuing in the future. “The Speaker Series was designed to give students an opportunity to learn from professionals in specific fields of interest. We are hoping that students walk away with an insight into what it takes to pursue these careers,” said Arietta.

Career Speaker Series panelists described their jobs, the skills and qualifications required, what they enjoy about their career and some of the challenges they have encountered over the years. Panelists included Barbara Daly (Special Agent, FBI), Bryan Leote (Police Officer and Detective, NYPD), Christine O’Connor (Division Chief of the Felony Trials and Investigation Division of the Westchester County DA Office), Jed Salter (Special Agent and Supervisor, FBI), David Sansone (Lieutenant, NYPD) and Benjamin Walker (Corrections Officer, NYC Department of Corrections).

The TZHS Career Speaker Series will host a panel discussion focused on the fields of entertainment (April 19) and computer science (May 17). Community members willing to volunteer their time to share their career pathways in a panel discussion and Q&A format are encouraged to reach out to TZHS Principal Rudy Arietta at rarietta1@socsd.org. Please include a brief summary of your experience in the related field.
