Thank you to all who came out to cheer on our two-time New York State Gymnastics Champion Carly Sardo and Tappan Zee High School’s (and the County’s) first-ever Boys Basketball New York State Champions for making South Orangetown history!
During a brief ceremony, TZ Athletics Director Bill Pilla, who organized the event, gave brief remarks, followed by Board of Education President Dana Stilley, Ph.D., Interim Superintendent of Schools Ileana Eckert, TZHS Principal Rudy Arietta and TZ Boys Basketball Head Coach George Gaine.
Donna Chiapperino (TZHS ’88), District 17 office manager for U.S. Congressman Michael Lawler, presented the athletes and coaches with certificates of Congressional recognition for their achievements.
The parade route led from TZHS to Town Hall, where the athletes and coaches were honored by Orangetown Supervisor Teresa Kenny and members of the Town Board. Kenny, Town Board members and other local, county and state officials also attended the TZHS ceremony.
Special thanks to the TZHS Pep Band, Town of Orangetown Highway Department, Orangetown Police Department, Orangeburg Volunteer Fire Department, Blauvelt Volunteer Fire Company Inc., Piermont Fire Department, Sparkill – Palisades Fire Department, Tappan Fire Department and South Orangetown Ambulance Corps for flanking the parade route and celebrating our students!
