World Language visits at CLE

Cottage Lane Elementary School fourth graders are getting an introduction to the French, Italian and Spanish languages this spring with the help of Tappan Zee High School World Language students!

Over the next several weeks, classes will participate in two student-led sessions of each of the languages offered at South Orangetown Middle School and TZHS. “Our goal is to expose and foster an interest in our World Language program. We hope the students get excited about learning the language and culture of the Romance Languages,” said TZHS World Language Team Leader Suzanne Grinberg on behalf of the department.

Lessons cover simple greetings, colors and expressing likes and dislikes. Each group of TZHS students helped develop the lesson plans including presentations and handouts. The lessons begin with a brief presentation about the topic before having the fourth grade students use what they have learned and converse with each other in the language. The annual event is one of the many opportunities for our students in different school buildings to make connections with each other as well as help younger students with the transition from one school to another.

Rising fifth graders will also have the opportunity to visit SOMS next fall and will get to meet each of the World Language teachers before making their course selections.
