Over the last few weeks, students throughout the South Orangetown Central School District have participated in the second annual “Operation Bundles” project! This campaign, created by William O. Schaefer Elementary School second grade teacher Jaclyn Nandlal, collects birthday party and cake supplies for the SOCSD Food Pantry.
“Birthdays are a big deal! Last year, we piloted Operation Birthday Bundles at WOS and CLE. This year, we went districtwide and engaged SOCES PTA, staff, clubs, enrichments and sports teams to come together for our community. It’s been incredible to see how excited students and their families have been to give back.” Nandlal exclaimed. The districtwide goal for this year was to collect 100 birthday bundles and they have surpassed that goal by collecting 150!
“There are many South Orangetown families who rely on our Food Pantry and may be unable to afford ‘extras’ to celebrate their children’s birthdays. For Ms. Nandlal and our school district community to recognize this and step up to support their neighbors is really heartwarming,” said SOCSD Family Engagement Center Coordinator AJ Walker. “It is truly appreciated.”
