CLE Assistant Principal Derrick DiRienzo

Last evening, the South Orangetown Central School District Board of Education approved the appointment of Derrick DiRienzo as Assistant Principal of Cottage Lane Elementary School, effective July 24, 2023.

Over the past 10 years, DiRienzo has worked in the Bronxville Union Free School District as an elementary general education and special education teacher, grade level team leader, teacher resident coordinator and interim dean for K-12 service learning. His leadership experience includes instructional observations and coaching, interviewing and hiring of new employees, strategic and logistical planning, data collection and analysis, professional development creation and facilitation, curriculum mapping and rollout as well as planning and facilitation of faculty, department and Response to Intervention (RTI) meetings.

DiRienzo holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration and a Master of Science in General/Special Education from Concordia College and a Master of Education degree in Educational Leadership from the Bank Street Graduate School of Education. His professional certifications include Childhood Education (Grades 1-6), Students with Disabilities (Grades 1-6), School Building Leader and School District Leader.

“This was a very competitive hiring process and Derrick impressed us with his positive energy, desire to support students and staff and experience with implementing curriculum with teachers. We are excited to welcome him into the CLE community!” said CLE Principal Karen Scarth, Ed.D.

Dr. Rob Schliessman has accepted an administrative position in another school district and will depart at the end of this school year.
