TZHS Career Speaker Series Sports Panelists

Tappan Zee High School hosted another installment of their Career Speaker Series yesterday afternoon that focused on careers in the sports industry!

Students gathered in the library during lunch periods to hear from four community members as they discussed the wide variety of careers that are available in the sports industry. Presenters included Associate Professor of Human Performance and Wellness at SUNY Rockland Community College Erik Ellingsen, TZHS’s Head Athletic Trainer Jessica Lappe, Professional Athlete John O’Reilly and author and former sports broadcaster and writer Adam Seitz.

Each presenter described their current jobs, what experiences led them to where they are today and offered advice that students can take with them as they prepare for post-secondary life. TZHS Assistant Principal Paul Frisch moderated the panel and when he asked panelists what personality traits that they possess that have set them up for success, responses included being present, reliable, adaptable, remaining humble and having the ability to take feedback and be coachable. They also told students to value the relationships that they currently have with their teachers, coaches and mentors because you never know how a connection can help you in the future.

Earlier this school year, TZHS hosted panels featuring community members with careers in the healthcare and computer science fields and will be hosting more over the next few months.
