South Orangetown Central School District

SOMS Bugsy Musical rehearsal

From getting into character to building the set, our South Orangetown Middle School thespians are hard at work as they prepare for their production of “Bugsy Malone,” which premieres next weekend!

Over the last several weeks, members of the cast have been working with Director and CLE Chorus teacher Danelle Greene, Assistant Director and SOMS Science teacher Victoria Uribe and Choreographer and SOCSD alumna Abbie Fox. To help the actors-in-training become comfortable with being on stage and performing in front of an audience, Uribe has been holding small group sessions where students get to perform voice and movement exercises as well as act out improv scenarios. Greene, who is also the Art, Business and Choral Director, has been going through the script line-by-line to help students practice their blocking, singing and acting skills while Fox has been breaking down each dance routine to help students learn the choreography.

SOMS crew members and Set Director Phil Sanger, Costume Designer Lenora Mesibov and Backstage Director and SOMS Chorus teacher Priscilla Pena-Carney are busy behind the scenes bringing the show to life through set design, props and 1920’s inspired costumes. The show takes the stage on March 8 and 9 at 7:30PM and March 10 at 2PM in the SOMS Auditorium.
