SOMS Spring Musical rehearsal of "Bugsy Malone"

This weekend, South Orangetown Middle School proudly presents “Bugsy Malone!”

Based on the 1976 film, “Bugsy Malone” is a musical comedy inspired by gangster films of the 1920s and features a catchy score by Paul Williams, the composer of “The Muppets Movie.” The slapstick comedy follows one-time boxer Bugsy Malone as he helps Fat Sam defeat Dandy Dan and his crew while simultaneously attempting to woo Blousey Brown, the new-girl singer in town.

The production features the work of 65 SOMS students and Director and CLE Chorus teacher Danelle Greene, Assistant Director and SOMS Science teacher Victoria Uribe, Backstage Director and SOMS Chorus teacher Priscilla Pena-Carney, Choreographer and SOCSD alumna Abbie Fox, Set Director Phil Sanger and Costume Designer Lenora Mesibov. “This show is so special for so many reasons but the most important one, in my opinion, is because of the students. They have stepped into and embraced their roles, both on stage and off, like true thespians. They encourage each other, help each other and fully support one another,” said Greene. “The students handle everything from acting to lighting, sound, costumes, makeup, set design and business. Bravo!”

Showtimes are 7:30PM this Friday and Saturday, with a matinee performance at 2PM on Sunday in the SOMS Auditorium. Tickets may be purchased at the door prior to the start of the show or online in advance here: socsd.booktix.net/. Tickets are $10 general admission, $8 for students and senior citizens. Senior citizens are admitted free on Sunday.
