Dr. Peter Canoll visits AP Psych Class

Tappan Zee High School students taking AP Psychology got a unique, hands-on lesson on the brain with help from Dr. Peter Canoll as they prepare to take their AP exam this week!

Dr. Canoll is the Director of Neuropathology at the Columbia University Irving Medical Center and Professor of Pathology and Cell Biology at CUMC. He visited all seniors currently enrolled in AP Psychology on Thursday to review neuroanatomy, with a focus on the structures and functions of the cerebral cortex. “Neuroscience is a large focus of the College Board’s curriculum, and the ability to have an expert like Dr. Canoll offer insight is a remarkable experience for our students,” said TZHS Social Studies Team Leader Scott Silver.

After discussing the complexity of the brain, Dr. Canoll showed students a preserved human brain. Students took turns holding the brain as Dr. Canoll showed them the different parts of the brain that they will need to know for the exam and they had the chance to ask any questions they had.
