Acoustic Underground

More than 20 students and faculty members performed at Tappan Zee High School’s Acoustic Underground event on Friday night!

El Capítulo Tito Puente de la Sociedad Honoraria Hispánica, the high school’s Spanish Honor Society, hosts the event each winter and spring to raise funds for senior scholarships. The event has been running for over 20 years and is organized by TZHS World Language teachers and Spanish Honor Society co-advisors Odette Santiago and Kristy Walsh, honor society officers and TZHS English teacher Michael Matulac. “It’s a great way for students to show off their talent in a comfortable environment. I’m even performing tonight and I would probably be too nervous to do it anywhere else,” said Spanish Honor Society officer Jamie P. Officer Cassie W. added, “I think it’s great that Spanish Honor Society hosts this event because it gets people to come out for a night of good music with friends!”

TZHS hosts several events throughout the school year focused on music performances including TZ Palooza and Hepcat, which is run by the English Honor Society. “It’s really great to have a space filled with so much musical talent and people that have a passion for music and art. It’s a creative outlet for students and I have discovered so many talented musicians from coming to this event,” said Annie A. who performed several songs throughout the evening. Tori V., who performed with Annie, noted, “It’s such an unreal thing that we have these opportunities to perform with our friends like Acoustic Underground and TZ Palooza. It genuinely feels like something that only happens in a TV show or a movie.”
