In recognition of Mental Health Awareness Month, TZHS Prevention Counselor Annie Scott collaborated with TZHS Social Worker Jessenia Cursio, TZHS School Psychologist Brad Hercman, and the TZHS Guidance Department to host a Wellness Fair last week!

May is Mental Health Awareness Month and throughout the month, TZHS has been participating in a month-long campaign to raise awareness about mental health. Scott and Cursio have been focusing on providing stress reduction tips by visiting classes throughout the month as well as including mental health tips and facts in the morning announcements each week and playing meditative music during passing time.

Last Friday, students had the chance to visit various tables related to wellness during their lunch periods. Each table provided information and resources to help students learn more about ways to improve both their physical and mental health. The tables were hosted by some of our TZHS clubs including the Yoga Club where students had the opportunity to practice their yoga poses. The Wellness Fair also featured experts from local organizations including CANDLE of Rockland, the Rockland County Department of Health, and Rockland County: Stop DWI.

“We thought it was important to host this event because students need a positive outlet for what they are going through each day,” said Scott. “This is our first time hosting this and we hope to make it an annual event and make it grow to include even more tables so our students have access to resources they may need. We are planning on hosting more events like this throughout the year.” Cursio added, “Everybody, including students and adults, needs wellness so it’s important that our students learn more about how to take care of themselves physically and mentally.”
