South Orangetown Central School District

Congratulations to Tappan Zee High School students Cate S., Ian R., Kiera K., Nuala M. and Thomas M. for graduating from the Orangetown Youth Court!

The program, led by the Town of Orangetown and the Orangetown Police Department, trains volunteers ages 13-19 to serve as judges, prosecutors, defenders and clerk/bailiffs in Youth Court proceedings. Throughout the two-year program, students that are interested in law and law enforcement have the chance to learn more about the criminal justice system, from arrest, to the appeals process.

“Youth Court is a great opportunity for our students to get real world experience in the legal field. Not only do students learn about the legal system but they also get to develop their public speaking and research skills,” said TZHS Principal Rudy Arietta. “We are grateful for the partnership with the Town of Orangetown and the Orangetown Police Department and that they are able to provide this opportunity to our students.”
