This morning, Tappan Zee High School Principal Rudy Arietta announced that Matthew Tobin is the valedictorian and Dylan Handelman is the salutatorian of the Class of 2023!
“Matt and Dylan have excelled both in and out of the classroom. This recognition is the result of a lot of hard work on their part. We are very proud of them and are excited to see what they accomplish in the future,” Arietta said.
Tobin is a National Merit Scholarship Finalist, US Presidential Scholar candidate, an Eagle Scout and was elected to serve as the New York State YMCA Youth and Government Secretary of State for the past two years. He is a founding member and co-president of the high school’s Youth and Government Club and president of the Drama Club, Mu Alpha Theta Honor Society and National Honor Society; co-president of the Science Olympiad Club; and, the captain of the Boys Fencing team. He will attend Harvard University in the fall, where he plans to study Political Science.
Handelman is Treasurer of the National Honor Society, Archivist for the Films and Screen Studies Club and a member of the History Honor Society and Mu Alpha Theta Honor Society. He has been a member of the Boys Soccer team, which went to Sectional Championships this fall. He earned the New York State Seal of Biliteracy for high proficiency in listening, reading, writing and speaking in English and Spanish. He plans to study Finance and Business.
The valedictorian and salutatorian are eligible for scholarships through the Lower Hudson Council of School Superintendents and will deliver addresses at their commencement ceremony.
