The Tappan Zee High School English Honor Society transformed the TZHS Library into a coffeehouse-type performance space last Friday night for the 22nd Annual Hepcat event!

Since its founding in 2002, the popular, student-run event has grown to include more than 30 performers, dozens of backstage volunteers student directors, lighting and sound technicians, set-up and clean-up teams) and countless bakers!

Hepcat provides student artists, poets and musicians the opportunity to perform in front of a live audience. Treasurer Autumn S., a junior, added, “It’s such a supportive, encouraging and welcoming environment. It’s been great to see some of the ninth and tenth graders come forward to perform since they will help carry on the tradition.”

Teachers are invited to get onstage, too. “It’s such a good opportunity for the students and teachers to work together. It’s a really good bonding experience,” noted Co-President Livia R., a senior.

This production was the last for most of the officers, who will be graduating next month. “It’s the perfect, but bittersweet, experience to wrap up our time as high school students,” said senior and Co-President of EHS Mickey D. “We’ve been looking forward to making it the most perfect and extraordinary experience it can be and know that we are leaving it in good hands as the next set of officers takes over.”

Proceeds from the ticket sales and t-shirt sales support English Department scholarships for graduating seniors and upcoming English Honor Society events.
