Since 2018, Director of Technology George Brady has partnered with Tappan Zee High School Computer Science teacher Karen Connell and the Southern Westchester BOCES Lower Hudson Regional Information Center to host internship opportunities for tech-focused high school and college students.
“Our Summer 2023 interns are working on provisioning Chromebooks at the high school: inventory, room checks and connectivity,” explained Jeffrey Lawrence, a South Orangetown-based LHRIC network specialist. “They are tremendously helpful. Splitting up the work enables us to get a lot done in the short time we have over the summer.”
Binghamton University senior Ethan Leigh (TZHS ‘20) is majoring in computer science. “After graduation, I’d planned to become a software engineer, but this internship has given me an opportunity to try information technology,” he noted.
Gaining exposure to a technology career pathway is something that the three rising high school seniors–Griffin H., Gabe M., and Oscar Z.–also appreciate.
“This is different from our computer science courses; the IT work we’re doing is more hands-on in terms of making sure that everything runs,” said Griffin.
Thanks for your hard work, Summer 2023 Tech interns!
