SOMS Youth Art Month display

The South Orangetown Middle School Art Department is celebrating Youth Art Month with a student art show! Each March, SOMS Art teachers Tatiana DiPierno and Allison Meyers organize an exhibit of student work in the SOMS main lobby in honor of Youth Art Month.

The display features original pieces created by students across grades 6-8 and includes mandalas, scratch art and self-portraits inspired by the artwork of Tim Burton. “It’s really nice that our artwork was chosen to be displayed and it’s cool to see all of our work come together,” said Ellie L. “It’s really interesting to see everyone’s finished pieces because when you’re working on your own project, you’re so focused on what’s in front of you that you’re not paying attention to what the people around you are doing,” added Arabella O. When looking at art, Isabella R. noted, “it allows you to see what everyone else’s thoughts are.”

In addition to this exhibit, artwork created by SOCSD students is currently displayed within our community including work done by second graders at William O. Schaefer Elementary School at the Tappan Free Library and art created by Tappan Zee High School students is displayed at the Palisades Free Library through the end of the month.
