South Orangetown Central School District

Lions Club Peace Poster Contest winner Isadora with Art teacher and Blauvelt Lions Club President

Congratulations to eighth grader Isadora N., South Orangetown Middle School’s 2023-2024 Lions Club International Peace Poster Contest winner!

This year’s theme, “Dare to Dream,” inspired Isadora’s design, and when asked to describe peace, she said, “Peace is like a rainbow. There is always thunder before the rainbow.”

The Blauvelt Lions Club has been a local sponsor of the Peace Poster Contest for many years, working with South Orangetown Central School District art teachers and students at all grade levels. For the past several years, SOMS Technology teacher Kerry Beckmann has served as the Blauvelt Lions Club Peace Poster Chairperson and former SOCSD World Language teacher Patricia Castelli is this year’s Blauvelt Lions Club President.

“The Lions Club International Peace Poster Contest gives young people the opportunity to share their vision of peace with thousands of students around the world participating each year. Our club is so proud that Isadora’s submission was selected to represent our District,” said Beckmann. “We thought her artwork wonderfully reflected this year’s theme, Dare to Dream. Our club is also very appreciative that SOMS Art teachers Tatiana DiPierno and Allison Meyers support the contest and encourage students to participate each year.”
