SCHOOL SCHEDULES
Considerations for Reopening
As South Orangetown CSD reopens and considerations are made to meet the health and safety guidelines, the following are some instructional schedule model options, essential planning questions, and actions steps for consideration. South Orangetown CSD is taking a flexible approach looking at everything through a distance learning lens, knowing, and understanding that we may have some students participating in a 100% distance learning model regardless of whether schools reopen. SOCSD is prepared to have 50% student capacity operating on an A/B one week in, one-week home cycle. Students with Individualized Education Plans (IEP) and our English Language Learners will receive their support in accordance with their program requirements. This model positions SOCSD to transition to more or less of a brick and mortar or distance learning.
Additional Considerations:
- Survey of the physical buildings and space to inform the instructional schedule model decision.
- Alignment with appropriate teacher professional development.
- Social-emotional support.
- How will we meet all students’ needs?
- Gather teacher input
- What is the communication plan for the school community on the new instructional model schedule?
- What resources are needed?
Scheduling Options
After analyzing several scheduling options, and with the input gathered from our subcommittees and District Task Force, the South Orangetown CSD will utilize a hybrid model of instruction that allows us the flexibility needed to pivot to 100% distance learning or 100% in-person learning in response to potential changes in State guidance addressing the COVID-19 pandemic. Students will receive synchronous learning according to their class schedules when on remote learning and interact with their teacher through the use of Zoom (Please see the Teaching and Learning Section for more information). The District is cognizant of providing differentiation of instruction to include a blend of digital and physical activities.
The student schedules at each one of our schools for the 2020-2021 school year are as follows:
Elementary Schools (WOS & CLE) Time | Secondary Schools (SOMS & TZHS) Time | |
Bus Arrival | 9:15AM | 8:10AM |
School Day Begins | 9:30AM | 8:30AM |
School Day Ends | 3:30PM | 3:00PM |
Parent Pickup* | 3:40PM (CLE), 3:45PM (WOS) | 3:00PM |
*Parents and/or guardians should not arrive earlier than this time to pick up students.
